How to request permission to enter Kamalo’ula

As a privately owned site with important archeological features that need to be stabilized and preserved, as well as for safety reasons, Kamalo’ula Cultural Preserve is currently under restoration and is off-limits to the public. Residents who would like to request access to the site may do so either by A) Contacting Na Kahu o Hoai and scheduling a guided tour of the area; OR B) Submitting a Request for Unguided Access as outlined below.

To submit a Request for Unguided Access, please follow the steps below. Your application will be reviewed and you will be notified if accepted.

  • Step 1: Submit Request for Unguided Access

    The Request for Unguided Access outlines the cultural, historical, and safety considerations of the site and defines expectations for those who enter. One signed form for each person should be submitted, along with the Waiver of Liability, to: Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Attn: Request for Kamalo’ula Access, P.O. Box 1381, Lihue, HI, 96766.

  • Step 2: Submit the Waiver of Liability

    The Waiver of Liability acknowledges that neither The Royal Order of Kamehameha I, nor Na Kahu o Hoai, are liable for any injury that may occur on the property. Your signed form (one for each individual visiting the site) should be submitted to: Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Attn: Request for Kamalo’ula Access, P.O. Box 1381, Lihue, HI, 96766.

Step 3: Wait for approval to enter

If approved, your letter granting permission to enter the site will be sent to you by post or email in approximately 7-10 business days.
